Oh no!

Ack.

My life is over. I just checked the CBC website and this story is in the news. I felt the need to share my sadness, because ....well, I thought I was going to marry that man!

Justin Trudeau! Off the market!! Whatever shall I do!

How can Justin do this to me? Didn't he realise that he was supposed to wait for me? I mean, our names even go together! Think about it. Justin and Justine Trudeau. It works perfectly!

....Okay, so I'm not really all that outraged. I mean, Justin was the one most like his dad, and I liked Pierre - but not enough to marry him, really.

And if my Professor is to be believed, well.... that woman has bigger worries on her hands than me stealing him way. (Since according to Anthony, Pierre's one true love was another man ...named Pierre, oddly enough.)

But even still...*Sob!* All my hopes rest on Sacha, now. That sexy political boy that he is.

Ridiculous

So, I was trying to decide what my next rant was going to be about. Maybe the narrow margin by which the Liberals kept their power? Maybe Star Wars and the story everyone is covering about how close it is to the current political climate in the United States? There were so many possibilities.

And then I turned on CBC Newsworld and this fell into my lap. I say again: What. The. Fuck. This story was ridiculous when the Canadian media was beating it to death. And apparently it warrants coverage by CNN as well, which only makes it that more ridiculous.

Now, CNN covering this story on its own is not enough to warrant my annoyance. Really, I don't care; it's actually nice to see the US media looking outward for a nanosecond, rather than focusing only on what's going on in Jesusland.

HOWEVER. This story is ridiculous. Could it be any more condescending?

"This week, Stronach made a move that shocked the normally staid world of Canadian politics." Canadian politics is staid? Last time I checked, we actually had activity here, rather than just going through the motions of handing power back and forth between identical parties both with the same exact agenda. I know I've said that the Liberals and Conservatives were basically the same, but we have like, other parties besides them.

And fuck, while we're at it, I don't remember the last time there was a chance of the American government falling and having to have an election in the middle of a term of office.

And of course, no story about Belinda fucking Stronach would be complete without this little gem: "'At the center of this drama is a very, very personal matter, which is her relationship with Peter MacKay,' Margaret Wente of the Globe and Mail said. 'And she dumped him. She dumped the party and she dumped him simultaneously.'"

Once again: "MacKay was surprised by her move. 'I just didn't see it coming,' he said."

I don't even know what to say. I want to have some sort of witty retort to this blatant bit of ridiculousness, but the words just won't come. Is this how far we've fallen? I don't expect the American media to cover Canadian bits of news; it's well known and joked about in Canada how we're the mouse to the US's elephant. But come on, people. If you have to say something about Canada in the news, at least say something newsworthy!

Oh, wait. I forgot, I was dealing with CNN. Silly me.

And then the kicker, the absolute kicker of the story is right at the end:

"Canada has been moving away from the United States on policies. Like same-sex marriage. And marijuana. And Iraq.

But Canada's politics are beginning to look more and more American."

Eh? This doesn't even make sense. How? How does any of this even relate to the United States? I can't recall something like this happening in the United States any time recently - or in the past, come to think of it.

Why do they feel the need to add this little "witty" quip at the end that brings it all together. That says, "Yes, this story was stupid and not really relevant to your life, however look how much those pleasant little Canucks are just like us." ?

We're NOT like you. GET THE PICTURE. We're NEVER going to be like you. Hell, most of us don't even LIKE you, except for Alberta, and I'm starting to wonder if they're even Canadian at all. I'm from the United States and I'm more Canadian than most Albertans. (Except for you people in Edmonton. We love you.)

So, memo to CNN and all you other American "media" outlets: If you're going to run completely irrelevant stories from other countries, at least stop trying to pretend that these other countries deep down are becoming like the United States. We're not. We're not going to, and maybe at some point Canada and the US were a lot alike, but as you turn down the path to Christian fundamentalism, rampant, unbridled nationalism and hardcore right wing policies, you're just going to see Canada look less and less like the United States. Actually, we may start to do things just make sure you realise we're nothing like you. Like maybe, legalise prostitution. *gasp*

So, in summary:

Things I have learned today:
1) Irrelevant, stupid stories will continue to be shown on CNN.
2) CNN is under the impression that Canadian politics are becoming "American;" an accusation that is completely unfounded. Also, they feel the need to be condescending about things that don't happen in Jesusland.
3) Canada should legalise prostitution.

Out.

And this is news in Canada...

So, I had been avoiding watching the news or doing anything news related since the start of this whole "The government's going to fall!!" debacle. But today, I just happened to be watching Popcultured, and some things there disturbed me.

So, I turned over to good old CBC to find what? Belinda Stronach, my favourite (sarcasm) Conservative MP is apparently a Liberal now.

Can I take a moment to say what the fuck? I mean, not that it's really surprising, given the fact that A) The Liberals and the Conservatives are basically the same party and B) The Liberals suck just as much as Belinda Stronach and C) we apparently live in an oligarchy, where the nobility have been replaced by CEOs, corporate royalty and other such capitalists. However, it's like, she turned over to the "Light" side, and was rewarded a fucking Cabinet Post? What. The. Fuck. Does Martin not remember her campaign platform? I know I certainly haven't forgotten the dregging up of the same old Conservative drivel, supplemented with helpful fashion tips on her website, made especially for us women who don't have a million dollars a year to spend on our wardrobe.

Those of you who know me in "The real world" (Slightly ironic that we live in a place called the real world and it seems to be more and more like some sort of fiction) might recall my rants about how the woman has set the rest of us aspiring women politicians back 15 years with her lovely, "oh, I don't know the issues, but I have enough money to hire men who do to tell me what to think!" attitude to Canadian politics. Yeah. That's right, women certainly need to be informed what to think by the men around them. What year is this?

And did anyone honestly believe that she was going to win the Conservative leadership? I mean, come on guys. I know she's young and fit and doesn't look like Satan. But really. Conservatives aren't that stupid. Not to mention that would seriously put a cramp in Peter MacKay's style, what with him winning the Tory leadership and handing his party over like a lamb to the slaughter to the Canadian Alliance, who I might add used to be the Canadian Reform Alliance Party. Yep. That's right. C.R.A.P.

However, I would like to congratulate the Canadian media for focusing on the most important part of this whole mutiny: MacKay and Stronach's relationship. It apparently may end, now that they can't discuss how great Neo-liberalism is and how wonderful corporate tax cuts are...and how there is really no need to stop climate change. Wait, the Liberals do that too. Silly me. Peter MacKay is apparently very broken up about it and was "blindsided" by her "defection."

Aw. I feel bad for you, Mr. MacKay, I really do. I wonder if you're going to get cut off from her daddy's money now.

And I love how CBC Newsworld is focusing on this whole "sexist" tone that the Conservatives have taken in their Belinda bashing, saying such things like she "prostituted herself" out for a cabinet position, she was "whoring" herself out and that this was a "blonde bombshell." ....Um, hello? We're talking about the Conservative party, here. They make no secret that they are a sexist, racist, pro-Christian party that focuses on "traditional family values." Why do you think we're all so scared of them winning an election that we'll continue to vote the dunce party in?

It's ironic that in all of this, the NDP still looks like a choice that just isn't viable to Canadians. Instead, we'd rather replay this ridiculous theatre over and over. When are we going to get a clue? Yeah, okay, so the NDP isn't perfect. Not even remotely. But come on, Canada? Can't we do better than this?

Out.

Second post - And disclaimer

I'm so creative with the names, aren't I? Well, anyway. I've added more to this blog. You can see my old MSN hosted spot over in my links section - it has more to it than this one so far.

I'm actually fairly new to this whole idea of blogging. Some people have such interesting things to say, but for me, I've never found it to be more than just an account that I actually did live. That I'm here, and I have a voice - and some may consider it worth hearing.

Or reading, or whatever. Anywho, I want to add a bit of a disclaimer, here. What I'm going to say on this blog will likely be controversial to some, and downright heretical to others. I'm going to lay where I stand right out on the table. I am an anti-capitalist anarcho-syndicalist, as well as a recovering American trying to make a life for myself in Canada. I believe in basic human dignity for everyone, parecon, and that rich people deserve to be lined up against a wall and shot [contradicting myself already, I know, but rich people are no longer people. I'll explain later].

My life thus far, on a scale of 1 to 10 has been about a 7 on the excitement scale - that is, I'm 24 years old and I've already experienced love like you wouldn't believe, as well as death and I've even survived moving to another country with little more than the clothes on my back and a complete paradigm shift - all before I turned 24. I've made some good friends and gained some new family along the way - but I've also lost something that was dear to me and gained the most unlikely relationship ever.

What do I think this all means? ...I don't know, really. It doesn't make me any more of an expert on life or love or anything more than any other person. I'm just here, offering my point of view and my life up to anyone who wants to read it. Unselfishly, I might add.

So, with that in mind, just...treat me with care. I want comments, I want to know how people think about what I say, and what goes on here, but at the same time, negativity is not encouraged. If you don't like what I have to say here, you are free to do so, or not do so and ignore me - but if you choose the former, just be respectful. That's all I ask.

Thanks, everyone.

First post.

Well, births are difficult (so I hear) and likely this is going to start out the same way. So, to be honest, disregard this post, I 'm just attempting to get my bearings...
