And this is news in Canada...
So, I had been avoiding watching the news or doing anything news related since the start of this whole "The government's going to fall!!" debacle. But today, I just happened to be watching Popcultured, and some things there disturbed me.
So, I turned over to good old CBC to find what? Belinda Stronach, my favourite (sarcasm) Conservative MP is apparently a Liberal now.
Can I take a moment to say what the fuck? I mean, not that it's really surprising, given the fact that A) The Liberals and the Conservatives are basically the same party and B) The Liberals suck just as much as Belinda Stronach and C) we apparently live in an oligarchy, where the nobility have been replaced by CEOs, corporate royalty and other such capitalists. However, it's like, she turned over to the "Light" side, and was rewarded a fucking Cabinet Post? What. The. Fuck. Does Martin not remember her campaign platform? I know I certainly haven't forgotten the dregging up of the same old Conservative drivel, supplemented with helpful fashion tips on her website, made especially for us women who don't have a million dollars a year to spend on our wardrobe.
Those of you who know me in "The real world" (Slightly ironic that we live in a place called the real world and it seems to be more and more like some sort of fiction) might recall my rants about how the woman has set the rest of us aspiring women politicians back 15 years with her lovely, "oh, I don't know the issues, but I have enough money to hire men who do to tell me what to think!" attitude to Canadian politics. Yeah. That's right, women certainly need to be informed what to think by the men around them. What year is this?
And did anyone honestly believe that she was going to win the Conservative leadership? I mean, come on guys. I know she's young and fit and doesn't look like Satan. But really. Conservatives aren't that stupid. Not to mention that would seriously put a cramp in Peter MacKay's style, what with him winning the Tory leadership and handing his party over like a lamb to the slaughter to the Canadian Alliance, who I might add used to be the Canadian Reform Alliance Party. Yep. That's right. C.R.A.P.
However, I would like to congratulate the Canadian media for focusing on the most important part of this whole mutiny: MacKay and Stronach's relationship. It apparently may end, now that they can't discuss how great Neo-liberalism is and how wonderful corporate tax cuts are...and how there is really no need to stop climate change. Wait, the Liberals do that too. Silly me. Peter MacKay is apparently very broken up about it and was "blindsided" by her "defection."
Aw. I feel bad for you, Mr. MacKay, I really do. I wonder if you're going to get cut off from her daddy's money now.
And I love how CBC Newsworld is focusing on this whole "sexist" tone that the Conservatives have taken in their Belinda bashing, saying such things like she "prostituted herself" out for a cabinet position, she was "whoring" herself out and that this was a "blonde bombshell." ....Um, hello? We're talking about the Conservative party, here. They make no secret that they are a sexist, racist, pro-Christian party that focuses on "traditional family values." Why do you think we're all so scared of them winning an election that we'll continue to vote the dunce party in?
It's ironic that in all of this, the NDP still looks like a choice that just isn't viable to Canadians. Instead, we'd rather replay this ridiculous theatre over and over. When are we going to get a clue? Yeah, okay, so the NDP isn't perfect. Not even remotely. But come on, Canada? Can't we do better than this?
Out.
